Lately, both public entities and private companies have set themselves the goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions with one clear objective in mind: climate neutrality. To this end, any development that moves in this direction can be evaluated, especially if we are talking about renewable energies. This is the case of biomethane,ย which is increasingly valued by industry in order to reduce its emissions.
These are the three main reasons why companies are turning to this renewable gas:
The adoption of biomethane prevents emissions from waste used as raw material from releasing their emissions naturally, as they are treated in a controlled environment, within the production plant. This aspect is especially relevant โfor the primary sector, whose decarbonisation is difficult to carry outโ.
The second factor is perhaps the most obvious. This alternative displaces fossil fuels as a source of energy, thus reducing their use and their penetration in the energy mix of the EU.
Finally, the production and use of biomethane adds an important component of circularity, as the use of the digestate obtained as a fertiliser for crops reduces the demand for mineral fertiliser production and helps to return organic carbon to the soil.
