BIOREF – LABORATÓRIO COLABORATIVO PARA AS BIORREFINARIAS

CoLAB BIOREF is a private, non-profit association dedicated to bringing highly qualified knowledge and innovation to the market, by identifying and addressing industrial needs in biorefining technologies. The organization provides a variety of technological services that are essential to promote advanced biorefineries, enhance the biorefinery sector’s competitiveness, and contribute to a low-carbon economy. BIOREF follows a market-oriented R&I Agenda, with two strategic domains – Bioenergy and Renewable Gases and Sustainable Bioeconomy.

LNEG – LABORATÓRIO NACIONAL DE ENERGIA E GEOLOGIA

Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia, I.P (LNEG), the Portuguese National Laboratory of Energy and Geology, is a State Laboratory attached to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Action, which mission is to promote technological innovation in the fields of energy and geology focused on science and technology, with the overriding objective of raising company competitiveness within a framework of sustainable economic progress. LNEG carry out research, testing and technological development activities in the areas of Energy and Geology, including: (1) Cleaner and more efficient use of fuels; (2) R&D&D activities with the purpose to introduce new energy technologies in the commercial and industrial sectors; (3) Demonstration and promotion activities related to energy; (4) Promotion and increased use of national energy resources, through the use of new and renewable forms of energy.

USTUTT – UNIVERSITY OF STUTTGART

The University of Stuttgart’s vision of “Intelligent systems for a sustainable society” stands for consistent interdisciplinary networking integrating engineering, science, humanities and social studies. The Institute of Combustion and Power Plant Technology (IFK) at the University of Stuttgart has gained expertise in energy research for more than 50 years and thus holds considerable experience concerning the thermal utilisation of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels such as coals, biomasses and residues like sewage sludge. For all commercially available combustion and gasification systems (i.e.: fixed bed, pulverised fuel/entrained flow, fluidised bed systems and gaseous and liquid fuel boilers), experimental facilities are available with capacities ranging from 5 kW up to 500 kW. In the field of gasification, in these facilities the following main technologies are investigated: sorption-enhanced gasification/reforming (SEG), air gasification, oxygen/steam gasification, and multistage gasification.

PSI – PAUL SCHERRER INSTITUTE

Paul Scherrer Institut is a swiss lab with focus on natural sciences and engineering. The Thermochemical Processes group in the Laboratory for Bioenergy and Catalysis investigates catalytic processes for the production of chemical energy carriers from biomass, CO2 and hydrogen, e.g., methanation and methanol synthesis, by experimental work and modelling/simulation.

CRES – GREEK CENTRE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

The Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES) is the Greek organisation for Renewable Energy Sources (RES), Rational Use of Energy (RUE) and Energy Saving (ES). CRES has been appointed as the national coordination centre in its area of activity. Its main goal is the research and promotion of RES/RUE/ES applications at a national and international level, as well as the support of related activities, taking into consideration the principles of sustainable development.

IPP – INSTITUTO POLITÉCNICO DE PORTALEGRE

IPPortalegre is a higher education institution that includes four schools, involved in teaching, training, research and other activities in their respective scientific, pedagogic, technical, and artistic scope. IPPortalegre has a research center – VALORIZA (Research Center for Endogenous Resource Valorization) – focused on bioenergy, waste valorization, renewable gases, and sustainable materials. Over the last few years, IPPortalegre has been working in different technologies for its main research areas, with great emphasis on thermochemical (namely thermal gasification, carbonization, and HTC), biochemical (e.g., anaerobic digestion) and electrochemical (e.g., photo-catalysis) conversion processes.

BIOPLAT – SPANISH TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION PLATFORM ‘BIOMASS FOR BIOECONOMY’

BIOPLAT is a public-private and non-profit organization covering activities in the field of biomass in its broadest sense, in terms of biomass resources (all types of recoverable organic matter), transformation technologies and applications (bioenergy, bioproducts, biomaterials and biochemicals). It also covers aspects of sustainability and regulatory framework; and carries out its activity in relation and collaboration with other related national and European technology platforms.

DOUROGÁS RENOVÁVEL

Dourogás Renovável is a spin-off of the Dourogás Group, thus taking advantage of the existing experience and knowledge in the gas market, to focus on the development of renewable gas projects. Our main goal, as a company, is to contribute innovatively to the creation of more sustainable solutions for mobility and the industry in general, thus having the ambition to become a leader in the production of renewable gases in Portugal.

CIRCLE MOLECULE

CircleMolecule is a private company who dedicates to the design, installation and operation of production units of renewable origin gases. These gases are produced with innovative technologies that use residual or low-value biomass as raw material in a perspective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

ALPHASYNT GMBH

In the field of Power-to-X, AlphaSYNT GmbH sells turnkey plants for the production of renewable synthetic energy carriers from CO2. Based on the fluidized bed technology developed by the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), it is possible to convert any CO2 and/or CO-rich feedstocks into SynFuels. Swiss SynFuels® can be produced regionally and CO2-neutral by AlphaSYNT through the use of Power-to-X technologies. AlphaSYNT supports its customers throughout the entire plant life cycle: engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and repair.
