In recent months, HYFUELUP partners have had the opportunity to meet stakeholders at several Industry events and present its objectives, technologies and added value, thus increasing the relevance and scope of the work being carried out in the different packages of the project:
Our partner LNEG, represented by senior researcher Filomena Pinto, participated at the beginning of July at the Industrial Biotechnology International Conference (IBIC 2024), that took place in Bologna (Italy).
Her presentation, entitled ‘Cleaning and conditioning of biomass gasification gas to produce biomethane‘, pointed out the importance of enlarging the existing technologies for biomethane production, developing alternative processes to anaerobic digestion, and thus, increasing the complete economic and environmental feasibility of gasification fuel production routes. And in that sense, using low-quality feedstocks can make a difference:
“Nowadays, there is a huge interest in using poor quality wastes with high amounts of undesirable components that originate syngas with high needs of cleaning and conditioning before methanation to convert CO and CO2 into biomethane (…) therefore, syngas cleaning and conditioning procedures are of main importance to biomethane production route from biomass wastes gasification, as the removal of harmful compounds simplifies the overall process for biomethane production and increases its economic viability”, she stated.
The HYFUELUP project served as an example of innovation in this type of technology.
Moreover, our colleagues Luca Schmidlin, Carmine La Vista and Andreas Gantenbein from AlphaSYNT visited ACHEMA 2024 (Frankfurt, Germany) in June. This trade fair gathers manufacturers and service providers from over 50 countries to present products for the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, energy and environmental sectors. ACHEMA 2024 addressed current issues and trends in the industry-relevant disciplines that move our community. About 900 congress lectures provided answers and solutions to shape the future of the process industry.
In addition to participating in the conference ‘Flexible methanation of carbon oxide gases – a cost-effective way to integrate PtX functionality into biomethane production‘, they were able to hold various discussions with possible new suppliers who would support them in the HYFUELUP project.
“At the end of the ACHEMA week, our Head of R&D Andreas Gantenbein was able to give a presentation about AlphaSYNT and the HYFUELUP project”, they assured.
The very same partner, AlphaSYNT, also participated for the first time this year at the 10th REGATEC conference in Sweden to present its direct methanisation technology, which allows CO2 to be directly converted into additional biomethane without having to separate it from biogas.
HYFUELUP project was also present, as the AlphaSYNT team —led this time by Andreas Gantenbein and Olaf Schottstädt—, used this event to display a roll-up summarising the essence of HYFUELUP, as well as to hand out informative flyers.
