After more than one year in operation, HYFUELUP‘s partners have participated in numerous industry, sectoral and stakeholder events, as well as publications, where they had the chance to introduce the project, build awareness about the relevance of finding new ways of obtaining biomethane and recruit interested parties:
Our project partners Luca Schmidlin and Andreas Aeschimann from AlphaSYNT participated in the Power Fuel Congress in May 2023, where they could get to know the Swiss market better to approach potential and future customers, cooperation partners, or even interesting new companies.
In June 2023, Tilman Schildhauer, representing our partner PSI Paul Scherrer Institut, participated at the 9th International Conference on Renewable Energy Gas Technology, REGATEC 2023, to present a poster about the demonstration of a fluidized bed methanation unit chosen to produce 500 kW of bio LNG from gasification gas. Besides, Francisco Gírio, project coordinator and Head of the Bioenergy Unit at LNEG, addressed the SUPEERA Project’s workshop, entitled ‘Delivering on REPowerEU: bringing research and industry closer to accelerate innovation and uptake of biomethane’, that took place during EUBCE 2023 in Bologna (Italy). Francisco focused on the importance of R&I to achieve efficient and cost-effective production of biomethane through thermochemical technologies.
BIOREF – Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB) participated in July 2023 in the 4th ‘Industry of the Future Workshop – Roadmap for the Introduction of Renewable Gases in the National Industrial Sector’, organised by Floene. In this workshop, project coordinator Gonçalo Lourinho presented the HYFUELUP project as an example of an initiative that aims to demonstrate innovative technology for the production of renewable natural gas (biomethane) from waste. Later on, at the end of the year, Gonçalo Lourinho also participated in the Biomethane Industrial Partnership (BIP) webinar about the report ‘Review of the current state of the art in innovative technologies for biomethane production’. There he shared his insights into HYFUELUP as one of the four large-scale Horizon Europe projects devoted to biomethane.
Finally, in January 2024, Margarita de Gregorio, on behalf of BIOPLAT, took the floor in the stakeholder meeting organized by OLEAF4VALUE, a European project focused on the valorization of olive leaves, to introduce HYFUELUP as an example of R&D applied to bioeconomy and biomethane production.
Non-scientific publications
During this period, HYFUELUP has been featured too in a couple of non-scientific publications, such as the interview conducted by CORDIS with Gonçalo Lourinho, from the BIOREF – Collaborative Laboratory (CoLAB), where he stated that in HYFUELUP “we are confident that it is possible to produce 100% renewable natural gas at competitive costs”; or the article in the Spanish magazine IndustriAmbiente on the decarbonisation of the European transport sector, where BIOPLAT (as the leader of the Communication and Dissemination WP), presented the project as one promising European innovation initiative for the production of biomethane.
